Frequently Asked Questions


Do you accept international orders?
No, we do not ship or process international orders.

If you wish to order our physical books, Social Studies School Service offers shipping internationally and carries many of our books.

If you wish to download an epub/ebook, we will process an order with the use of an international credit card, and for the billing address, you can use our address and use "00000" for the zip code.

Ex. Your name, 6265 Bunche Hall, Los Angeles, CA 00000

How many online downloads are customers allowed?
You are allowed 3 separate download attempts per individual e-book/epub (as many as were purchased.)

Do you accept returns?
We do not process returns.

Why can't I download my ebook/epub?
You must create an account on the NCHS sales site to have access to this. Do not create an account after purchasing ebooks/epubs under a guest account; this will not give you access. Creating an account must be done prior to purchasing your ebook/epub.

Where do I go to download my ebooks/epubs?
1.  Log in to your account
2. Go to our homepage: http://nchs.ss.ucla.edu
3. Click the tab at the top of the page: "My Account"
4. It will take you to "My Account" page; click the tab "My Downloadable Products"
5. Your order should appear under this tab

I downloaded my ebook/epub, but it won't open on my computer; why not?
The free application, Adobe Digital Editions, must be downloaded in order to access the downloaded content. You will not be able to read your ebook/epub with a .pdf reader.

Can I pay with a purchase order?
Yes, if you are a school, organization, or business, please email nchsorders@history.ucla.edu with your polite inquiry. Please do not fax the purchase orders. Please make all purchase orders payable to UC Regents and include the invoice #.

What's the best way to get in contact?

Email is usually the fastest route or by calling the office during business hours (10 A.M. to 5 P.M., Monday through Friday). Please note NCHS is not open on weekends or university holidays.

I would like an exam copy to review before purchase. How can I get this?
If you are a certified school teacher, we offer a special review program to send an exam copy of one of our units for you to review prior to purchase.  Please submit a request, include the name of your school, the grade you teach and the NCHS title you would like to review.

Please note: If you decide to keep the copy we send you, you will be charged for the unit. However, if you decide not to keep the examination copy, you must return the unit in saleable condition (no creases, binding in tact, no highlighting/mark-ups; i.e., must in brand-new or like-new condition).

How do I download classroom texts (E-books/ePubs) for student use with an order that includes a Classroom License?
  1. Log in to http://nchs.ss.ucla.edu with the same account information used for the initial purchase of the downloadable text and accompanying classroom license.
  2. Go to the tab "My Account".
  3. Go to the tab "My Downloadable Products".
  4. Once you have downloaded the product for yourself (note the folder you downloaded the ePub/E-book to) the license allows you to put your copy in a Dropbox or other virtual "Locker" to share with your student.
